Six girls were crowned as royalty for the 2014 Feast of the Flowering Moon Thursday night.
Huntington High School Sophomore Caylin Ashcraft is the Miss Feast of the Flowering Moon Queen for the coming year. Her 1st Attendant is Lexie Magill from Chillicothe High School and Huntington's Makayla Zeisler is the 2nd Attendant.
For the first time in the 31 years of the Feast, the Queens were crowned on the opening night of the festival. The girls were judge in a pageant last Saturday in the Majestic Theater. Ashcraft says that meant a few nerve wracking days for the contestants.
"It's all I could think about all week" said Ashcraft. Her cousin Kayla Lemaster was crowned queen last May. "I'm really glad I had her there to support me and walk through it."
Was she surprised? "I thought I did good Saturday (at the judging), but I didn't think I'd win Queen!"
Zane Trace's Madison Kellough was crowned Teen Queen. Her 1st Attendant is Dantasia Withrow of Southeastern Middle School and 2nd Attendant is Kala Wetzel of Chillicothe Middle School.
The girls will preside over the Feast all weekend and represent the festival across the Buckeye State throughout the coming year.
