A nonprofit that works around the world to encourage computer recycling is urging parents to buy recycled computers for back-to-school this year.

Patty Osterberg, the education and outreach director for Sustainable Electronics Recycling International, says people often discard their computers prematurely.

She says the hardware is still usable though the software slows down.

She says Microsoft has been involved in her group's efforts to encourage computer recycling here and around the world.
