Chillicothe Police arrested a man for robbing Loan Max on North Bridge Street at 11:20am, Monday. Employees told authorities that a man entered the store at 10am, asked to use the restroom, came out 40-50 minutes later, said he wasn't feeling well, went back into the restroom, came out few minutes later with a large machete in his hand, and gave an employee a handwritten note that said, “If the cops show before I leave I gotta kill you both. Give me the money.”
They told police the subject fled on foot after they gave him the money they had on hand.
Chillicothe Police Detectives working with Detectives from the U.S. 23 Major Crimes Task Force and Ohio Organized Crime Commission developed information that the suspect was Dane Butcher as a recent photo of Butcher appeared to be the same person in the security video committing the robbery.
Later in the afternoon, authorities say detectives spotted Butcher in a vehicle with a woman and infant. The vehicle was stopped at a restaurant on East Main Street. Police say a machete was in plain sight between the front seats, and Butcher admitted to the robbery.
Butcher was arrested for aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and taken to the Ross County Jail. He’s set to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court at 9am, Tuesday.
