ODNR Sets Open Burn Restrictions

ODNR Sets Open Burn Restrictions
Posted Wednesday, October 2nd 2013 @ 5am

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, has listed March, April, May, June, October, and November as months when open burning is not allowed in Ohio. The exception is only if a waiver is issued by the O.D.N.R., and the burning is done by a Certified Prescribed Fire Manager.

The established rules allow open burning of residential and agricultural waste, in unrestricted areas but not garbage or materials that contain rubber, grease, asphalt, or any petroleum products.

Restricted areas include incorporated villages with populations from 1,000 to 10,000 and a distance of 1,00 feet beyond the corporation line; and cities with populations of over 10,000 and a distance of one mile beyond the corporation line, where open burning is not allowed except by special permission by the Ohio E.P.A. The unrestricted areas are those areas beyond the restricted areas in the various townships.

In areas where open burning is allowed there must be a minimum distance of 1,000 feet from the site of the burning and an inhabited dwelling on adjacent property.
