OVI Bill Named for Local Attorney

OVI Bill Named for Local Attorney

A bill named after a Ross County attorney who was killed in a drunk driving crash would mandate that all impaired driving offenders get interlock devices on their vehicle.

"Annie's Law", named after Annie Rooney, who was killed by a drunk driver last July, would see Ohio join 20 other states with interlocks required even for those convicted of OVI for the first time.

Mothers Against Drug Driving Ohio's Randy Young says they've found that even first time offenders have actually driven while impaired up to 88 times in the past but have never been caught.

In 2012, 385 people were killed in crashes involving a drunk driver in Ohio. That's about 34 percent of all traffic fatalities in the state.
