Man with Stolen Kayaks in Truck Hits Cop Car

A Columbus man, accused of hitting a police cruiser with a truck that was carrying two stolen kayaks, was arrested on Tuesday. According to a Chillicothe Police report, officers responded to Dunham's Sports just before 3:30 a.m. and saw Leonard T. Roy, 37, of Columbus, driving a truck in the Shawnee Square parking lot near Party City and Dunham's.

Roy allegedly put his truck into reverse and hit the responding officer's vehicle, causing a kayak to fall out of the truck. Authorities say Roy tried to drive away, but his truck got stuck in dirt behind the building.

Police say Roy tried to flee on foot but was arrested for theft, obstructing official business, fleeing and eluding, felonious assault, felony criminal tools, and a felony warrant from the U.S. Marshall. Authorities say Roy is also a suspect in a Monday morning theft at Wal-Mart where three vacuums and two sleeping bags (worth a total of $1,154.94) were stolen.

A passenger in Roy's vehicle, Amber Green, 35, of South Salem, was cited for complicity to theft.
