The Feast of the Flowering Moon is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and would like to announce its contests.
Returning this year by popular demand is the “Anything That Floats But a Boat” Race! This is the race where contestants build their floating entry and race across the Yoctangee Lake for the fastest time.
There are two divisions for the race: Youth and Adult and prizes awarded to first place in each category is $250, second place $100, and third place $50. Trophies will be given for Best Dressed and Best Decorated in each category.
The deadline for entries into the race is May 11, 2018.
The annual singing contest, Ross County Idol, continues this year. The singing competition offers two categories: Junior Idol for those ages 11 – 15 and Ross County Idol for ages 16 and older. The top three winners of each category will be given a trophy and awarded prize money.
For Junior Idol contestants, the top prize is $500, second place $250, and third place is $150. For the Ross County Idol, first place receives $1,000, second place $350, and third place $250. Auditions for the competition will take place on May 19, 2018 at the Majestic Theatre.
Applications are now available to download for entry into the Feast of the Flowering Moon Queen and Teen Queen contests. In addition to the Queen’s contest, the festival will continue its Princess Pageant for girls ages 3 years to 11 years of age. Contestants in the Queen and Princess Pageants must reside in Ross County and submit their applications by May 5, 2018. The pageant will take place in advance of the festival on May 19, 2018 at the historic Majestic Theatre.
Those participating in the Princess Pageant will be crowned the day of the event, with the Queen and Teen Queen being crowned on opening night of the festival on May 24th.
