Chillicothe Man Leads Police on Low Speed Chase Through Westside

A 40-year-old Chillicothe was charged with Felony Fleeing and Eluding after leading police on a low-speed pursuit through the city's west end on Saturday.

According to a Chillicothe Police report, a patrol officer observed a gold Chevy Lumina traveling eastbound on Western Avenue shortly after 1:00 a.m. The officer attempted a traffic stop on West Fifth Street after witnessing a signal violation at the intersection of Western and Carlisle Hill.

The vehicle failed to stop continuing on several area streets at speeds ranging from 20 to 45 mph. The vehicle finally came to a stop in a private drive on Roberts Lane.

The driver of the vehicle, Michael Retherford, briefly struggled with police after he was removed from the vehicle. Upon questioning, Retherford informed officers he fled from the traffic stop because he was out of jail on bond for a pending Felony case.

The pursuing officer said he witnessed Retherford toss a prescription pill bottle out of the vehicle in the area of Bishop Flaget during the pursuit. The bottle was recovered but no illegal substances were found inside.
