Area farmers are being reminded that it's time to start scanning their fields for fungal diseases. OSU Extension Educator Chris Bruynis said Gray Leaf Spot has been recently found in Ross County corn fields, while a scout found Frog Eye Leaf spot in Highland County.
"These diseases are out and growing with this humid weather we've been having," said Bruynis.
There has been concern that fungicides have been proving ineffective for treating fungal diseases in southern states, but Bruynis said there is a work around as Ohio's Frog Eye fungi isn't yet 100% fungicide-resistant.
"We may want to look at a fungicide that has more than one class or one mode of action," said Bruynis. "We've got three or four different fungicides mixed together; that's probably a better attack than going with a single source."
