Teen Sentenced for Hilliard School Shooting Pilot

(Columbus, OH)  --  Four years in prison await the teenager who plotted a mass shooting at Hilliard High School.

John Staley III, a 17-year old from suburban Columbus who was tried as an adult, was sentenced yesterday for conspiracy to commit murder in an elaborate threat to carry out an attack in his high school.

Prosecutors say Staley's school, Hilliard Davidson, was the target - and his plans were advanced.  They included diagrams of the building, online research, and efforts to recruit other students to help carry it out.

The plot was snuffed out through tips from other students.

With his distraught parents behind him, Staley spoke for himself. The judge sentenced Staley to four years in prison, with five years probation after that.
