Piketon Rallies to Defeat Alex/PV & SE Seasons End

One of the three SVC boys basketball teams in Division 3 action won, Saturday. Piketon beat Alexander 54-44, while Paint Valley fell to Oak Hill 68-52 and Eastern Pike got by Southeastern 59-45.

Piketon 54, Eastern 44

Piketon stormed back from a 10 point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Alexander 54-44 on Saturday in the Boy's D3 District Semi at the OU Convo.

Two technical fouls on Alexander and two three-pointers from Piketon's Alex Blanton were key to that comeback.

Piketon shot 17/44 compared to Alexander's 19/47, but the Redstreaks made 16/18 foul shots to help put them over the top. Alex was only 3/6. They also out-rebounded the taller Alexander team, 29-20. 

Piketon committed 13 turnovers to Alex's 11. From the foul line, Piketon was 16/18.  From the arc, Piketon was 4/11 with Alexander at 3/8.

The Redstreaks were led by Tanner Purdue with 27 points and 11 rebounds, Alex Blanton had 14 with Blake Reader contributing 10. Austin Taylor put up 2.

Piketon now advances to the district final, against Wheelersburg, who beat Lynchburg Clay 66-41.

Oak Hill 68, Paint Valley 52

Oak Hill's Mitchell Hale paced their attack with 24 points, as one of four Oaks to hit double-figures. Nolan Carroll added 13, Mason Darby 12 and Landon Carroll with 10 as Oak Hill shot 54% from the field at 25/46. That included 8/20 from the arc. Paint Valley was 22/47 for 47%- including 3/7 from the arc. 

The Oaks went 10/14 at the foul line compared to 5/8 for the Bearcats.

6'11 senior Dylan Swingle wrapped-up his record-breaking career with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Hunter Hamlin added 10.

Oak Hill improves to (21-2) as Paint Valley ended their season at (17-8).

Eastern Pike 59, Southeastern 45

The Eagles of Eastern Pike shot 57% in their win over the Panthers, going 21/37- including 6/16 from the arc.. Southeastern managed 41% on 17/41 from the field. That included 6/20 from the arc.

Eastern was 10/18 at the foul line while SE was 5/11.

Eastern also controlled the boards at 24-17.

The Eagles were led by Michael Miller's 22 points and 10 rebounds. Hunter Cochenour added 12 points. Southeastern was led by senior Rex Hartman's 20 points. Lane Ruby added 10.

Eastern improves to (21-3) and now faces Oak Hill for the district title, while Southeastern closes their season at (11-14).
