Rita Moreno Wears Same Dress to Oscars 56 Years Later

Step aside Kate Middleton, Rita Moreno just recycled a dress from 56 years ago. The Oscar-winning actress chatted with Ryan Seacrest on the E! red carpet ahead of the 2018 Academy Awards on Sunday, March 4, and revealed she’s wearing the same dress she wore while accepting the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Anita in West Side Story back in 1962.

Rita, who turned 86 this past December, made only one altercation to the gown, turning the neckline into a strapless gown for the 90th annual awards show. The West Side Story star told Ryan that her dress is made from Obi, the same fabric responsible for Japanese kimonos.

"I know, you would think it would tarnish," she told Ryan while discussing how well it's been preserved. "It's been hanging in my closet."

In 1962 while accepting her award, the actress gave just a 15-second long speech. She told Ryan ahead of the Oscars that it was because she was so surprised.

“I had no idea I was going to win, I thought for sure it was going to be Judy Garland for Judgment at Nuremberg which was a big deal, she was doing a dramatic role," she said. "I said, hey I flew in from the Philippines, just in case, which is where this gown was made."
