Luke Bryan Has His Own Full-Time Bass Grower

Luke Bryan takes his fishing seriously.

The American Idol judge dropped by Late Night with Seth Meyers to reveal he has hired a full-time employee who works on his farm only to grow the bass fish in his lake.

And that’s what makes him country.

“I have guy, I have this bass lake, and his job is to grow the bass into the biggest bass in the world… He hand-feeds them. He gives them massages so they can swim,” Luke jokes, describing his very own “bass spa.” “They’re just like, ‘I’m tired. It’s stressful being in your pond.’ We release them, though, so it’s not like we’re growing them for some weird high-grade sushi…. We catch them [and throw them back.]”

The “Most People are Good” singer adds sons Bo, 9, and Tate, 7, most enjoy the family’s supersized bass.

“They’re like our little pets,” he says. “The boys get out there, and we’ve spent a lot of time growing these fish… It requires a lot of time, I’ve learned. My boys will run up to the back porch, and they’re like, ‘Dad, I caught this.’ I’m like, ‘Son, get back to the pond and get the fish back to the lake. His eyes are drying out!’”

Watch Luke on the season premiere of American Idol Sunday (March 11) on ABC.

The What Makes You Country Tour continues this weekend in Louisiana.
