Ross Sheriff Warns of "Jury Duty" Phone Scam

The Ross County Sheriff's Office is warning of an attempted phone scam involving the county sheriff's office.

Sheriff George Lavender says a county resident recently received a call from someone claiming to be with the Ross County Sheriff's Office. The caller told the victim that they had failed to show for jury duty and that a warrant had been issued for their arrest. The caller then told the victim that if they purchased money cards and provided the caller with the card number, they could avoid arrest.

The victim said Caller ID showed a number associated with the Ross County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Lavender says his office does not make such calls and that anyone who receives a similar call should report it to his office.
