Area Agency on Aging & Walgreens to Raise Awareness of Older Adult Falls

Approximately one in three older Ohioans will fall each year. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related emergency department visits, hospitalizations and death among older adults. Many medications and health conditions can contribute to a higher risk of falls.

To help end this epidemic, Walgreens Pharmacy is partnering with the Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7), the Ohio Department of Aging, the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging, and Area Agencies on Aging around the state to raise awareness of older adult falls and strengthen pharmacy relationships with and referrals to local senior services and supports. Walgreens leadership and AAA7 representatives will discuss the importance of prevention to maintain quality of life and independence, and how pharmacy and AAA7 staff will collaborate to link customers to available assistance.

On Aug. 7th, every Walgreens Pharmacy in the state will offer special “Senior Day” promotions and pharmacy services to help older customers understand their falls risks, including consultations to identify medicines that may increase the risk of falling.

Locally, the "Senior Day" promotion will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Walgreens Pharmacy at 850 N. Bridge Street.

If you are unable to attend the community event but would like to learn more about resources in your community about falls prevention, call the Area Agency on Aging District 7 at 1-800-582-7277 or e-mail info@aaa7.org.
