The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal commercial vehicle crash in Union Township Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:02pm when a Freightliner semi driven by 51-year-old Anthony Jones of Sidney, Ohio, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 35, near the Pleasant Valley Road exit, west of Chillicothe. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree, and struck a ditch. The contents of the trailer were ejected through the front of the trailer, crushing the cab.
Jones succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, 53-year-old Vicki Shawler, also of Sidney, Ohio, was extracted by mechanical means and was transported by Medflight to OSU Wexner Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
