Adena Stays in SVC Title Hunt with Win at Huntington

The Adena Warriors kept their name in the talk for an SVC football championship following their 48-28 win at Huntington. The victory keeps the Warriors one game behind conference leaders Paint Valley and Southeastern, with those two teams playing each other in Week 8. Adena still has Southeastern and PV on their schedule.

Adena grabbed an early 14-0 lead on drives of 59 and 58 yards, with quarterback Preston Sykes connecting with Caleb Fogelsong on a 59 yard score and a 14 yard pass to Dalton Metzger.

Huntington got on the board with a 65 yard drive in 10 plays, with Elijah McCloskey connecting with Seth Beeler on a 24 yard pass in the closing seconds of the first quarter to make it 14-7.

The Warriors stretched that lead to 21-7 when Nate Throckmorton capped off a 10 play/50 yard drive with a 6 yard TD run with 6:22 left in the half. Huntington came right back at 4:12 remaining as they drive 84 yards in 7 plays, when Elijah McCloskey ran 3 yards for a score to make it 21-14, which was the score at halftime.

But, the third quarter saw Adena score three unanswered touchdowns for a 42-14 lead with Dalton Metzger scoring on runs of 2, 3 and 2 yards.

Both teams traded scores with the final being 48-28.

Adena rushed for 209 yards and threw for another 131 on Preston Sykes passing 6/10. Sykes also threw for two TD's. While Dalton Metzger only rushed for 35 yards, he scores four TD's.

Huntington's Elijah McCloskey threw for 16/26 for 192 yards and two TD's while running for another. The Huntsmen rushed for 147 yards for a total of 339.

Adena improves to (3-1/5-1) while Huntington fell to (1-3/4-3).

Elsewhere in the SVC, Paint Valley stays unbeaten with a 28-3 win over Zane Trace. Southeastern wins 20-13 at Unioto to stay undefeated in the SVC. Westfall was a 60-30 winner over Piketon.

94 Country WKKJ has a huge match-up next week, with Paint Valley traveling to Southeastern in a battle of SVC unbeaten teams and likely the top 2 teams in Division 6/Region 23 when the latest OHSAA rankings come out.
