Pike Government Building Evacuated Following Chemical Spill

Pike County

A government building in Waverly was evacuated Wednesday morning due to a chemical spill.

The Waverly Police Department was called to the Pike County Government Center near U.S. 23 shortly after 9:00 a.m.

Pike County Commissioner Fred Foster stated to 10TV News in Columbus that the evacuation and closure of the building were ordered as a precaution for the safety of employees and the public.

Pike County EMA says the chemical posed an inhalation hazard and that the spill had been contained to a storage room at the back of the building.

No injuries or illnesses were reported.
