The recently completed Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway is now complete and ODOT plans to celebrate the milestone achievement with a ceremonial ribbon cutting this Thursday.
The Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway, or State Route 823, was formerly known as the Portsmouth Bypass. It's a four-lane limited-access divided highway rerouting through traffic around the cities of Portsmouth and New Boston in Scioto County.
The Ohio Department of Transportation and its developers, the Portsmouth Gateway Group, will gather for the ceremonial ribbon cutting this Thursday, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the entrance to the SR 335/Shumway Hollow interchange, adjacent to the Greater Portsmouth - Scioto County Regional Airport.
Though the ribbon cutting for the new highway takes place this Thursday, the route will not be open to traffic until Friday, December 14th.
