(24/7 News)  --  The Ohio State Highway Patrol is saying nine people died on the highways during the Christmas weekend this year.

According to a report released yesterday, three of the deaths were the result of motorists not wearing safety belts while three others were related to operating a vehicle under the influence.

Troopers with the State Patrol said the nine fatalities this year is the same number of people killed during the same holiday period in 2017, and overall 2018's numbers are down almost ten percent.

The Patrol said it made 46-hundred traffic stops over the holiday with 404 OVI arrests and nearly 630 seatbelt violations.
