Chillicothe Council Hosts Young Visitors, Considers Safety Forces Needs

Monday evening, Chillicothe Council hosted some young visitors.

Six boys, age 8 through 12, started off by leading the Pledge of Allegiance, then watched council in action.

Wayne McLaughlin is the volunteer coordinator with the program named "Men of Success - Tomorrow," or M.O.S.T. The group started mid-January, and will graduate mid-May

McLaughlin said they meet once or twice a week and take field trips for positive life experiences. They were visiting council to see government in action.

The group is operated from the Carver Community Center on West 4th Street. McLaughlin says they will probably continue the program, and maybe expand it.

In his Safety Services committee meeting, Joel Fleurima discussed requested purchases of new vehicles and radios for police and fire.

He said a CAD system, or Computer Assisted Dispatch, is a needed replacement for an aging system. Fleurima said the county will be on the same system, but not combined.

He also discussed some replacement radios, which have been approved in the budget...and floating a bond issue as a loan to buy a few new police cruisers.

These should be on the agenda, next council session.

Council also delayed reading an appropriation of $25,000 for legal expenses with a contractor on the Water Treatment Facility, as they try to clarify matters.
