Escaped Pickaway Jail Inmate Recaptured in Northern Ross County

An escaped jail inmate from Pickaway County has been recaptured. Steven E. Stephenson was taken back into custody by State Patrol troopers in northern Ross County.

That was at around 11 p.m. last night on Countyline Road. Stephenson had walked away from the Pickaway County Jail around 5 a.m. Wednesday while on work detail at the jail.

According to Pickaway County Sheriff Robert Radcliff, a passing motorist had observed a suspicious person and contacted the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the Chillicothe Post caught up with Stephenson and were able to detain him. He was taken back into custody by Sheriff Radcliff and transported back to the Pickaway County Jail.

Sheriff Radcliff thanks the State Patrol, the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, The U.S. 23 Major Crimes Task Force, and the members of his office that assisted in the search and final apprehension.
