Big Offensive Effort Leads Westfall To SVC Baseball Crown Over ZT

Two weeks ago, Westfall and Zane Trace trailed first place Unioto by two games in the SVC Baseball title chase. Tuesday night, it was the Mustangs and Pioneers battling for the conference championship, with Westfall claiming an 8-2 win for their first SVC baseball title since 2010.

Westfall had 15 hits in the game, while winning pitcher Lucas Blackburn checked the Pioneers on only 4 hits and fanned 8 Pioneers.

The Mustangs scored two runs in the second and three in the third for a 5-0 lead, with Zane Trace answering with two in the top of the fourth to make it 5-2. Westfall added one in the fifth and two in the sixth for the final margin of 8-2.

While Blackburn was dealing the Pioneers trouble on the pitching mound, the Mustangs bats were hot at the plate. Eric Corzatt went 3/3 with 3 RBI's. Titan Williams, Brayton Felger, Sam Frazier, Matt Baemel and Jay Wyman each had 2 hits apiece.

Westfall had 8 runs/15 hits/2 errors/8 left on base, while Zane Trace had 2 runs/4 hits/2 errors/5 left on.

Westfall wins the SVC Championship with a (11-3) record, while Zane Trace, Unioto and Adena all share the runner-up slot at (10-4).
