New Chillicothe Police Canine Gets Public Introduction, Thursday

The Chillicothe Police Department is offering the community a chance to meet the department's newest canine officer.

.

Chillicothe Police Officer Shane Simmons will make an appearance with his new canine partner Rin at the Bridge Street McDonald's, at Bridge and Second Streets, Thursday, June 27th. The canine meet and greet will take place from 11am to 1pm.

.

"They'll be able to come in and meet me and the new canine," said Officer Simmons. "He'll be muzzled so you'll be able to pet him."

.

Rin is a Belgian Malinois, similar to a German Shepherd, and he will work as the Chillicothe Police Department's third canine officer.

.

"He is trained for narcotics and full patrol," said Officer Simmons. "Full patrol involves tracking, building searches, and apprehension."

.

Rin's addition to the local police force was made possible with a donation from the local charity group, Little Blessings, which has conducted a variety of fundraisers for the department over the past several years, including canine purchases and body armor for those canine officers.
