Defending SVC Volleyball Co-Champs Fall in 2019 Conference Opening Night

Opening night of SVC Volleyball saw the defending co-champs go down to defeat.

Unioto fell in five sets at Zane Trace (25-22, 15-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-6) while the Panthers of Southeastern were dropping a three set sweep to Westfall (25-16, 25-17, 25-12). The Shermans and Panthers shared the title last year.

The conference could see a wide-open race for the SVC championship this fall.

While Tuesday was opening night in conference play, everyone except Adena had played at least one non-conference match with others playing as many as three to four.

Elsewhere, the Warriors played their first match of the season and picked up a sweep at Paint Valley, (25-10, 25-14, 25-12) while Huntington ran their overall record to (5-0) with a (25-11, 25-9, 25-9) sweep over Piketon.

.

Thursday action will see Huntington at Unioto, Zane Trace at Southeastern, Adena at Piketon.

The Westfall at Paint Valley match has been moved to 1pm Saturday, due to Thursday night being the Bearcats football opening night against Eastern Pike.
