The Ross County NAACP will have their 44th Annual Freedom Fund Scholarship Banquet, Saturday, October 12th at the Christopher Conference Center. The Banquet starts at 7pm & the social hour is from 6pm-7pm.

The Speaker is Dr. Mecca S. Carter- Marshall, Adjunct Professor at Liberty College & Christian Life Coach Advocate at Unspoken Courage. Dr. Mecca S. Carter-Marshall is also an Associate Minister at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Springfield, Ohio. She holds a Ph.D. in Law & Public Policy, a Master’s in Public Safety and a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice. She has also earned a second Master's in Human Service Christian Counseling specializing in Family Advocacy, Public Policy and the Future.

Dr. Marshall grew up in Brooklyn, New York where she learned at a very young age that if she wanted to accomplish anything in life, she would have to work hard, despite any obstacles in her way. Surviving abuse and neglect, she spent most of her life preparing herself for the important role of advocacy, which is the heart of her business, Unspoken Courage. Whether it is through life coaching or victim advocacy, her goal is to be a voice for those silenced by the harsh realities of life.

Some of her community work involved being a Court Appointed Advocate for abused and neglected children in Washington, D.C., volunteering in battered women shelters in Brooklyn, N.Y., and advocating for sexually assaulted survivors in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and most recently here in Ohio.

She is an Adjunct Professor at Liberty University where she teaches several policy related courses on-line, and Clark State Community College, where she teaches Juvenile Procedures in their Criminal Justice program.

When at home, she loves spending time with her wonderful husband Wayne Marshall, her family, and her puppy Mary Jane (MJ).

Dr. Marshall knows firsthand that being an African American woman is not easy, however, this has never stopped her from pursuing her dream of helping others. She is motivated by the words of her favorite poet - the late Dr. Maya Angelou who said, “You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Do not make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can't take their eyes off you.”

Tickets for this event are $40 for Adults and $10 for children under the age of 10-years-old. No tickets will be sold at the door and tickets must be purchased by October 3rd.
