(24/7 News) -- The matriarch of the family behind the Pike County massacre was scheduled to go on trial today (Monday), but that has been delayed. Rita Jo Newcomb is charged with perjury, obstruction of justice and forgery.

Special Prosecutor Angie Canepa says the parties have agreed to reschedule this for a hearing at a later date "in the interest of justice."

Prosecutors say Newcomb lied to investigators to protect her daughter, son-in-law and grandsons from being charged with the murders of eight people in 2016.

Trials in the Rhoden case are to be held in Pike County Common Pleas Court
