Unioto Beats Southeastern in SVC Girls Basketball Struggle for First Place

Unioto's Lady Shermans hold first place alone in the SVC Girls Basketball title chase after a 47-39 win at Southeastern, Tuesday. The loss is the first conference defeat for the Lady Panthers.

Southeastern jumped-out to early leads of 4-0, 7-2 and 12-4. That's when Unioto went on a 12-0 run for a 16-12 advantage. The score was 18-18 at half, but Unioto won both the third and fourth quarters. The Lady Shermans took a 37-32 lead after three quarters, then held the Lady Panthers without a field goal in the final period.

Unioto shot 16/32 from the field for 50%- including 5/12 from the arc and 10/16 at the foul line. Southeastern was 9/27 from the field for only 33%- including 5/9 from the arc and 16/24 from the charity stripe. SE won the rebounding battle 21-17 and turnovers for such a match-up of top teams were high for each team. Southeastern had 19 and Unioto 17.

Four Unioto players were in the scoring column with three in double figures. Amber Cottrill led the way with 14, Cree Stulley 13, Avery Miller had a double-double of 11 points/10 rebounds and Emily Coleman added 9.

Southeastern got 15 points from Sierra Mitten, Cidney Huff had 8, Skylar Hice had 7 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out. Macie Graves added 6 and Alexis Bailes with 3.

Unioto improves to (6-0/10-2) and Southeastern drops to (5-1/9-3), tied with Adena at one game back. Southeastern travels to Adena on Thursday.
