Fan Ejections Becoming More Common at School Sports Events

It seems to have become more common that some fans of local sporting events are being ejected from the event, due to unruly behavior. In most cases, the people being ejected from the event are adults.

.

Ross County Sheriff George Lavender says the game referee is in charge of the event and can request that a fan or fans be removed from that event.

.

Last week, there were at least four separate incidents where fans had to be ejected from high school tournament games in the Southeast District.

.

Southeast District Athletic Board officials that iHeart Media Sports spoke to last week say they are concerned about the increasing incidents and may be discussing ways to curb this bad behavior.

.

In a related note, the Ohio legislature is considering a bill to increase misdemeanor penalties against anyone who physically assaults a referee during a sports event. The penalty suggested would be a $1,500 fine and 40 hours of community service, if the person charged is convicted.
