RCI Officers Under Investigation for Making Inmates Fight

Two officers are on leave and under criminal investigation after an allegation that Ross Correctional Institution inmates were forced to fight for the entertainment of corrections officers

10TV in Columbus interviewed Angela Davis and her son, inmate Nick Davis. He said officers took him to an empty cell April 4 and told him to fight another inmate, Marcus Hamilton.

Both say they fought brutally for about four minutes and were then returned to their cells without medical attention.

On April 21, the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction began an internal investigation of two corrections officers who were alleged involved. On May 7, the Ohio State Highway Patrol started a criminal investigation as a possible dereliction of duty.

The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the union representing the officers declined to comment on 10TV's story.
