Crash in Bloomingburg Claims Life of 21-Year-Old Fayette County Woman

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that claimed the life of a 21-year-old Fayette County resident on Tuesday evening, July 7, 2020. The crash occurred shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Main Street near the intersection of Midland Avenue in the Village of Bloomingburg.

According the Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, a 2004 Ford Focus operated by Shawna J. Vassar, age 21 of Good Hope was traveling south on Main Street and sideswiped several parked vehicles parked along Main Street. Vassar continued south on Main Street through the intersection of Midland Avenue and drove off the left side of the roadway, colliding with a utility pole and tree before coming to rest.

Vassar, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. The vehicle sustained heavy damage in the crash and was towed from the scene.

Members of the Bloomingburg-Paint-Marion Township Fire Department, Fayette County E.M.S., and the Sheriff’s Rescue Unit all responded and assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
