North Adams Lady Devils Top Lynchburg-Clay in Wednesday Night Barn Burner

The first meeting between North Adams and Lynchburg-Clay girls basketball teams was indeed a blowout with The Lady Green Devils claiming a 66-31 victory. However, Tuesday night's rematch was anything but! The Lady Mustangs managed to close the gap this time around, falling 40-37.

It did seem, after the first half, that the Lady Devils were going to get another relatively easy win, leading at the intermission 23-10. But it was a dynamic comeback by the home-standing Lady Mustangs that actually made the game into a true barn-burner.

The Lady Mustangs turned the game completely around on the strength of a 16-7 advantage in third quarter play. In fact, the Lady Mustangs held a brief four point lead with two minutes to play. It was then that North Adams, with a bevy of seniors with experience, made the crucial plays down the stretch to pull out the 40-37 victory.

Jade Massey, a freshman starter for Lynchburg, was a key cog in the comeback effort (scoring ten points). For her solid effort she was named the WSRW "Player of the Game!" Coach Whitney Lewis, after the game, spoke to how hard her gals had competed after trailing by double digits. At the end, it was truly one of those games that could have gone either way!
