Ross Sheriff to Use Grant Funds to Reinforce County Jail Cell Walls

Ross County Sheriff George Lavender wants to use almost $75-thousand in grant money to reinforce cell walls at the Ross County Jail.

According to 24/7 News, the issue was discussed with the county commissioners Monday in regard to the ongoing county jail renovation project.

$50-thousand of it will come from a T-CAP grant which the county receives annually to fund the housing of offenders who are not allowed to serve their sentence in a state corrections facility. Normally, these funds would not be allowed to help fund the jail, but Governor Mike DeWine has given his blessing to the sheriff's office to use the money on the project. The rest of the money would come from a COVID relief grant.

The Ross County Jail project was expected to be completed in October, but will be pushed back because of the pandemic.
