Semi Crash Results in Fuel Spill in Jackson County

No injuries were reported following a semi crash in Jackson County that resulted in several gallons of diesel fuel being spilled over the roadway.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning, the Jackson Post of the Highway Patrol was dispatched to a non-injury semi crash at the US 35 rest area and Cain Road in Jackson County.

A 2020 Freightliner Semi, driven by Meried Abrha, 40, of Keenesburg, Colorado was traveling west on US 35. Mr. Abrha drove off the right side of the roadway striking two stops and a light pole. Mr. Abrha and John Abui Chol, 30, of Omaha, Nebraska was not injured in the crash

Jackson post of the Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by ODOT, Coalton Fire Department, Jackson County HAZMAT and Jackson County EMA.

Jackson County EMA is coordinating the clean-up of approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel that was leaked from the fuel tanks.
