Michigan Man Killed in Crash Involving Three Semis in Jackson County

Authorities continue an investigation into a deadly crash in Jackson County.

The State Patrol reports that Troopers were called to the intersection US Route 35 and Caves Road shortly after 9:00 a.m. Thursday in regard to a crash involving three tractor-trailers.

Troopers say a semi had been traveling west when it attempted to slow down for a vehicle that had been making a right-hand turn onto Caves Road. A second westbound semi is then reported to have stuck the left rear side of the lead semi. A third westbound semi then collided with the rear of the second.

According to the Patrol, a passenger in the second semi, Robert Martinez, 38, of Michigan, was killed in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner. The driver of that rig, Gregory Goodman, 56, of Michigan, was flown to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash shut down all lanes of US 35 in the Caves Road area for several hours. Normal traffic flow along US 35 resumed late Thursday afternoon.
