Economic Development Initiative Works to Replace Jobs Being Lost in Piketon

The Ross County Commissioners heard an update on economic development August 30th, 2021.

Tim Poe works for the company that is demolishing and decontaminating the Piketon "A-Plant," Fluor BWXT. He's also part of the Joint Economic Development Initiative of Southern Ohio, or JEDISO.

He says the economic development agencies of the four counties that house most of the employees of the Gaseous Diffusion Plant - Ross, Pike, Scioto, and Jackson counties - have pooled together the equivalent of a small city with a population of 22,000. That is to attract economic development before Fluor BWXT's contract is set to end in March of 2023.

Tammy Eallonardo also summarized her accomplishments in attracting and improving local industries in the last three years in her role as the Economic Development Director of Greater Chillicothe and Ross County Development.

This was all part of an appeal to the commissioners to resume their previous level of funding of economic development.

Kevin Coleman reports on local government and culture.
