Volunteer Worker Struck, Killed by Vehicle at Hillsboro Food Pantry

A volunteer worker at a Hillsboro area food pantry was killed Friday from injuries sustained when they were struck by a vehicle in the pantry's parking lot.

According to Highland County Sheriff, Donnie Barrera, the 63-year-old female New Life Ministries volunteer had been struck and run over by a vehicle operated by a 72-year-old man.

The incident took place shortly before 1:00 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the ministry, located off State Route 247 in Hillsboro.

Deputies from the Highland County Sheriff's Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Paint Creek Fire and EMS responded to the scene.

The victim, reportedly from Peebles, was transported to Highland District Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The investigation is ongoing.
