Highland Sheriff's Office, BCI Investigating Saturday Shooting Death

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Highland County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the shooting death of a 61-year-old woman.

Highland Sheriff Donnie Barrera says 40-year-old Tim Johnson II had contacted the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office telling them that his mother, 61-year-old Stephanie Chaney, had shot herself.

The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Highland County Sheriff’s Office and Highland deputies then checked the residence located on Hickory Trail in Paint Township and found Chaney deceased inside the home.

Johnson was transported to Highland County and while being interviewed by detectives he is reported to have confessed to shooting his mother.

The incident took place around 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29 . The case continues to be investigated.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports that on January 29, 2022 at around 8:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office stating that they had a male they were talking with who advised them that his mother had shot herself.

Deputies from the Highland County Sheriff’s Office checked the residence on Hickory Trail in Paint Township. They found a deceased woman in the home. Detectives were called to the scene and BCI was contacted to assist in the investigation. A search warrant was executed with the assistance of the Highland County Prosecutor, Anneka Collins.

The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office transported Tim Johnson, HH, age 40 years, to the Highland County Sheriff’s Office, where detectives interviewed him. Johnson admitted that he had shot his mother, 61-year-old Stephanie Chaney.
