Chillicothe, Ross County, and the Scioto Valley — The Ross County Historical Society highlighted their events and activities over the past year in their recent annual meeting.

See photos below of the gathering at the Ross County Heritage Center, which included the “First Capital Historical Awards,” scholarship recipients, the second annual “Ross County Contributors,” and more, on April 27th, 2026.

In my first story, learn about Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center students who record the personal narratives of veterans, and their teacher, the recipient of a “First Capital Historical Award.” Globe Furniture and their 120th anniversary display was the other winner this year.

The Memorial Committee hosted cemetery preservation training – on the hottest day of the year – and sensitively repaired grave markers in Hopetown Cemetery in Springfield Township on June 21st and 22nd.

They are hosting a one-day class on how to safely clean historic headstones, starting at 8:45 this Saturday. (Below, reservations required.)
