'American Idol' Winner Hannah Harper Shares Sneak Peek Of Unreleased Ballad

Hannah Harper “seriously can’t wait” to release a new song at the end of the week.

Harper, 26, shared a sneak peek of “Married Into This Town” on TikTok and Instagram on Tuesday (July 7). She sings: “I left behind those city streets/ For a small town boy and his grandma’s ring/ White picket fence and a front porch swing/ Hand-me-down couch and a newfound dream/ I wasn’t born with roots in the ground/ But I brought ‘em with me and plan to lay ‘em down/ Ain’t got a money tree growing in the yard/ But there’s a dollar store right down the street/ I just wanna be anywhere you are/ Hands in the dirt, planting new seeds/ Some people can’t wait to get out/ Oh, but I married into this town/ Oh, but I married into this town.”

Earlier this year, Harper, a mother of three from Willow Springs, Missouri, became the first female country artist to win American Idol since Carrie Underwood’s career-launching victory in 2005. Underwood returned to Idol as a judge last year, two decades after she competed on the show. The eight-time Grammy winner cried during Harper’s audition with a vulnerable original song that went viral. Harper performed “String Cheese,” and earned praise from Underwood and her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. Bryan said Harper’s voice reminded him of Kacey Musgraves, Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton and others.

“Married Into This Town” will arrive on Friday (July 10).
