TMSG: Off-Duty Police Officer Saves 3rd Grader From Choking

Third-grader Madelynn Kurtz was leaving the Cobb Luxury Theater in Ohio when something bad happened. Kurtz started to choke on a piece of candy. Her mother Chelsea started screaming and asking for help when off-duty Butler County Deputy Mike Gipson and his wife, Stephanie heard what was happening.

Both Mike and his wife started doing the Heimlich (maneuver) on Madelynn and none of it seemed to work. After readjusting and patting her on her back a couple of times, Madelynn started to breathe.

On Monday, the Sheriff's Department gave the deputy the Lifesaving Award.
