The Southeastern Lady Panthers blew open a close game in the second quarter and went on their way to a 58-36 pounding of previous co-leader Unioto, in SVC Girls Basketball Tuesday night.
Trailing 12-11 after one quarter, Southeastern shot 54% in the second quarter and found themselves up 29-20 at half.
That lead continued to grow in the second half and got to be as many as 24 points, before settling for the 22 point margin of victory. Southeastern clamped down on any hopes the Lady Shermans would be revived, when Unioto was held to 14% shooting in the third quarter.
The win places the Lady Panthers at (7-0) in the SVC, one game ahead of Unioto to complete the first round. The win is also Southeastern's 34th consecutive SVC Girls Basketball win, four shy of tying the all-time record of 38, set by Westfall in the early 1980's.
Ella Skeens led the way with 25 points and 9 rebounds and got balanced help from Skylar Hice with 9 points and the trio of McKinley Mitten, Rachel Collins and Mandy Morris who each added 8 points.
Unioto was led by sophomore Cree Stulley's 13 points to go along with Amber Cottrill and Jocie Fisher- who each had 8.
The Lady Panthers shot 19/43- including 3/6 from the arc for 44%. They also were 17/23 at the foul line.
Unioto was held to only 24% from the field on 11/45- and were a dismal 3/20 from the arc. They were 11/19 at the charity stripe.
The rebounds were even at 30-30 and Unioto committed 13 turnovers to SE's 10.
Southeastern improves to (7-0/10-2) while Unioto falls to (6-1/9-3).
