WCH Opens FAC Action with 38-7 Win Over Chillicothe

Washington Court House broke open a close game at halftime, pulling away from Chillicothe for a 38-7 victory in the first game of FAC play, Friday..

Washington took the opening kick off right down the field and got the scoring started less than 90 seconds into the game as Quarterback Ethan Rogers-Wright hit Eli Lynch with a six yard touchdown pass, PAT was good and just like that the Blue Lions were up 7-0. Blue Lion kicker Brandon Cubbage successfully placed a pooch kick that the Blue Lions were able to recover on the ensuing kick off but on Washington's first play of the drive Rogers-Wright was intercepted by Cavalier Kamron Smith. Chillicothe ended up having to punt the ball away but it was blocked Alex Hamrick to give the Blue Lions excellent field position to start their next drive. Unfortunately for Washington they turned the ball over on downs right back to Chillicothe. The teams traded possessions until 5:23 to go in the first half when Blue Lion place kicker Grant Kuhlwein knocked in a field goal to go up 10-0.

Chillicothe finally got on the board late in the first half when Quarterback Kamron Smith ran in a read option play 14 yards, capping off a 4 play 66 yard drive, PAT was good to make it 10-7. On Washington's next drive they went 74 yards on 7 plays that finished with a disputed touchdown by Eli Lynch. Calum Brown caught a pass from Rogers-Wright but fumbled on the 1-yard line, into the end zone and the ball was recovered by Eli Lynch to give the Blue Lions a 16-7 lead going into the half.

The Washington defense held Chillicothe scoreless through the rest of the game even forcing a safety off a bad snap that went to the back of the end zone making it 18-7. Eli Lynch scored his third touchdown of the game on a 27 yard touchdown run then senior Chase Sluder who plays mainly defense came in the game in a goal line situation and capped a 4 play drive diving in the end zone from 3 yards out. The very next drive Sluder picked up another score as the Cavaliers were driving. They had the ball inside the Blue Lion 10 yard line when Sluder picked off the CHS QB and ran 95 yards for his second score of the night, which put Washington up 38-7, giving them a continuous clock which ended the game giving the Blue Lions the victory moving their overall record to 4-2 and 1-0 in FAC Play.

For the night Washington had 336 total yards, 104 rushing and 232 passing. Ethan Rogers-Wright was 16-25 with 1 TD and 1 interception. Eli Lynch caught 6 passes for 61 yards and a score, Jerome Mack had 6 catches for 66 yards. Jamie McCane led the rushing attack with 17 carries for 68 yards, Lynch had 3 carries for 32 yards and a score, he also had the fumble recovery for a score. The Blue Lions had 8 first downs, 2 turnovers and had 12 penalties for 85 yards.

Chillicothe had 221 total yards, 195 on the ground. They were led by sophomore running back Hunter Thomas' 176 yards on 26 carries, Kamron Smith had 18 yards rushing on 5 carries and the lone Cavalier score. The committed 4 turnovers, had 12 first downs and had 9 penalties for 77 yards.
