OHSAA Conference Call Keeps Sports Suspended- For Now

Ohio High School Athletic Association Head Commissioner Jerry Snodgrass updated school administrators and the media via a tele-conference Thursday on the status of the postponed winter tournaments and the upcoming spring sports seasons.

For those that participate and are fans of high school sports, for the time being, "no news was good news". In essence, no decision has been made yet on cancelling any sports, but time could be running short according to Snodgrass.

A decision on the winter sports season will likely be made within 24 to 48 hours. Also, the opening of the spring sports is still scheduled for practice to begin April 6th with games able to start April 13th. The OHSAA has signaled that a decision by Governor Mike Dewine on the remainder of the school year will also determine what happens with spring sports.

Currently, schools around Ohio are dismissed until April 6th, but it is possible they could be closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year. The governor will determine closer to that April 6th date as to whether the public health would be best served by keeping students at home.
