National Weather Service Introduces New Winter Weather Warning


The National Weather Service is introducing a new type of Winter Warning on November 1st..


The Snow Squall Warning is intended to inform the public that a short-lived burst of heavy snowfall has developed reducing visibility and causing slick roadways.


Snow Squalls can be accompanied by high winds and whiteout conditions that can result in large traffic pileups.


The Snow Squall Warning will be similar to Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings in that they will remain in effect for a period of about 30 minutes to an hour.
