The Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce is putting its support behind the Ross County Parks District levy, set to appear on the November 5th general election ballot.

The Board of Directors of the Chilllicothe Ross Chamber voted Wednesday to endorse the 10-year, 0.5-mill levy, which was first introduced last year and was defeated by a narrow margin.

In release on Wednesday, September 25th, Chamber President and CEO Mike Throne aid the park district’s track record of more than 25 years of quality service, coupled with a forward-thinking vision, also fits with the Chamber’s stated mission of community development that adds to the business community.

“A strong business climate is helped by a strong network of well-maintained parks and recreational trails that add to the look and feel of our community,” said Mike Throne, president and CEO of the Chamber. “A ‘yes’ vote is one that will help maintain the Paint Creek Recreational Trail, the Coppel Athletic Complex and Buzzard’s Roost Nature Preserve – just three of the great offerings from the park district.”

The Chamber’s endorsement comes after Levy Chair Ty McBee met with the Chamber’s advocacy committee and presented information on the campaign. The advocacy committee recommended approval to the full board, which concurred with the recommendation.

“The Ross County Parks District is an integral part of our community’s continued revitalization. They provide public access to much-needed resources such as recreation, student education and programming, and sports participation,” said McBee.

The Chamber, which has more than 700 members, will consider endorsements in issues that pertain to economic and community development, but does not take sides in races involving candidates.
