Hillsboro FFA Soil Judging Team Qualifies for State

The Hillsboro Future Farmers of America chapter has advanced to the State Competition for Soils.

The team, consisting of members Claire Wilkin, Katie Craig, Joe Helterbrand and Alora Brown, expressed their knowledge of soil quality and structure, while determining if the soil was adequate enough to support crop life. The competition took place on October 12th.

As individuals, Joe Helterbrand placed 34th for his project with Alora Brown coming in at 42nd.

“I had an amazing time at the state contest and I enjoyed hanging out with the soil team," said Helterbrand.

The Soils Team placed 5th in the district competition, with the Hillsboro FFA’s Soil Judging Team placing 15th overall.
