Two Vehicle Collision on US 23 Claims Life of Chillicothe Woman

A traffic collision along US 23 northbound in Pickaway County claimed the life of a Chillicothe woman and caused a shutdown of the northbound lanes for several hours, Monday.

According to Pickaway County Sheriff Robert Radcliff, his office’s dispatch received a 911 call at 9:43 a.m. Monday, February 24th reporting a collision in the northbound lanes of US 23, south of Orr Road.

A vehicle operated by Christina M. Hertenstein, 41, of Chillicothe, had become disabled and had pulled off from the northbound lanes onto the side of the roadway. A truck, carrying a wide-load of a large utility building, also traveling northbound, then collided with Hertenstein’s vehicle, causing Hertenstein’s death. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Squad and Fire Units from the Pickaway Township Fire Department, the Pickaway County Coroner’s Office and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office’s Accident Reconstruction Unit all assisted at the scene.

The northbound lanes of US 23 were closed for several hours as a result of the accident, reopening around 5:00 p.m.
