Harvest Prep Fights Off Two Zane Trace Rallies for Regional Semi Win

The Zane Trace Pioneers saw their season close Wednesday in a 58-46 set-back to defending state champ World Harvest Prep in the Division 3 Regional Semis. The arena that seat over 12,000 people, was nearly empty under the OHSAA directive for only parents and close family members able to watch in person, due to the Covid-19 concern.

The Pioneers got out to a 5-0 and 7-2 start and led 11-8 late in the first quarter, when Harvest Prep started an 18-0 run that took them to a 26-11 lead with a few minutes remaining in the first half. Zane Trace closed the half on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 26-17 at halftime.

The Pioneers got to withing 28-26 in the third period, when HP went on a 7-0 run for a 35-26 lead. Trailing 37-32 after three quarters, the Pioneers were within 37-34 and 38-36, only to see Harvest Prep go on another run of 10-2 to put the game out of reach.

Cameron Evans became the all-time Zane Trace Boys basketball scoring leader, finishing with 26 points in his final high school game. Nick Nesser added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Colby Swain added 6, Triton Davidson scored 2 points before fouling out and Nalin Robinson had 1 point but 5 rebounds.

Christopher Anthony led the (23-3) Warriors with 21 points while Brian Beavers added 12.

The three unanswered scoring runs mentioned earlier were key for Harvest Prep along with 20/26 from the foul line in gaining the victory. The Warriors were also 16/39 from the field- including 6/15 from the arc for 41%. Zane Trace shot 18/41- including 2/8 from the arc for 44% and added 8/14 from the line. The Pioneers edged HP on the boards 25-24, committed 11 turnovers to 8 for HP.

Zane Trace concludes their season at (22-4), SVC co-champs and district champs, gaining a Sweet 16 berth for a second straight season.
