Jackson Motorist in Critical Injury Crash

A single vehicle injury crash is being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, occurring on State Route 788 between Wellston and Jackson.

Troopers discovered that a vehicle had traveled off the right side of the roadway while traveling south and struck a utility pole. The vehicle was wedged between the pole and guy wire trapping the driver inside. The vehicle had sustained heavy damage to the roof and windshield on the driver’s side which caused serious head injuries to the driver. The driver was identified as 47-year-old Jimmie Vest Jr. of Jackson.

The Jackson Fire Department also responded to the scene and extricated the driver from the vehicle. Jackson County EMS took him to Holzer Medical Center of Jackson. Vest was then transferred to OSU Medical Center in Columbus in critical condition.

State Route 788 remained closed for nearly an hour while first responders worked the scene. The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at the time of reporting.
